Samuel and Micah are excited. Abraham is aprehensive, mostly about not having as much socializing available to him everyday--all day. It will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to spending more time with the boys and getting to see them learn. We decided to use The Well Trained Mind model of classical education. I am also excited to learn along with the kids. There many things I didn't learn over the course of my public education and my unfortunately shortened, unfinished college education. One day I'll go back, college was fun! We are not in this to get our kids ahead of schedule or keep them completely protected from the world. For awhile I thought about afterschooling, but by the time the kids got home they didn't want to sit still any longer and needed the time to get outside and play.
Right now I am trying to decide on curriculum. It's hard because there is so much good and interesting stuff out there. I am currently trying to figure out language arts. I think that science will be just as hard to decide on because that is the main subject the kids will want to do.
So if you want to tell me I'm crazy, that's fine, but it won't change my mind.

We're planning on homeschooling as well, so I'm excited to see how this goes for you. I'm sure you'll do a GREAT job teaching. I'll have to check out the Well Trained Mind!

I think I would love the freedom of knowing what my kids were learning and who they were dealing with each day. Hope it goes good for you. You will do great.
Good luck! What an exciting decision. Sam is only 2 1/2, but I am pretty sure we are sending him to public school. Hopefully he won't be as corrupted as we were. On a different note, I am not sure if you read the Pioneer Woman blog, but she has a section on Homeschooling. I find it intersting, but that is all. I don't think that is crazy. And I was a teacher! In a private school even!
I just think that sometimes administrations can get caught up in their own weird beliefs about what is important for a child's education. It doesn't help with the accreditation lady fuels their fire. I don't know why none of those people thought reading was important. Srsly. Tangent...

I liked using Sonlight for a lot of our stuff when we homeschooled...Also, Noeo science is GREAT...

Wahooo, Ruth!! I'm excited for you! It is such a wonderful journey, with plenty of ups and downs, but I'll pray that you have mostly ups. :) Your socialization question is on the docket to be answered in tomorrow's post.
